Women leaders and development advocates have challenged young Nigerian girls to embrace their potential, develop valuable skills and take bold steps towards leadership, emphasising that confidence, education and personal development are essential to shaping their futures.

The call was made during the Rise Up Conference 2026 in Abuja, an initiative of The Healthy African Girl Foundation (THAG), which brought together young girls, mentors and influential women to promote leadership, self-confidence and empowerment.

The conference provided an interactive platform for participants to explore opportunities for personal growth, build their confidence and learn from women who have navigated challenges in their professional and personal journeys.

Speaking at the event, founder of The Healthy African Girl Foundation, Dr Chinekwu Oreh, emphasised the importance of equipping girls with the knowledge and practical skills required to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

She encouraged participants to recognise their strengths, pursue their ambitions and take advantage of opportunities that could prepare them for leadership and economic independence.

Discussions also highlighted the growing influence of technology, particularly artificial intelligence and social media, as tools young women can use to develop skills, express their creativity and explore entrepreneurial opportunities.

Participants were encouraged to move beyond passive consumption of digital content and begin using technology intentionally for learning, innovation and personal development.

Beyond digital skills, the conference reinforced the importance of self-awareness, resilience and mentorship in helping girls overcome limiting beliefs and societal expectations.

Speakers challenged the young participants to embrace leadership opportunities in their schools, communities and future careers, reminding them that their voices and contributions matter.

The event also created opportunities for networking, shared learning and meaningful conversations between participants and women leaders.

Through initiatives such as the Rise Up Conference, The Healthy African Girl Foundation continues to champion girls’ empowerment by creating platforms that encourage confidence, leadership and personal growth.

As conversations around gender equality and youth development continue across Nigeria, the conference reinforces a powerful message: girls do not have to wait until adulthood to become leaders. With the right skills, support and opportunities, they can begin shaping their futures today.
